Antique Sterling Silver Waistcoat Buttons in Original Case, Birmingham 1903

Elegant Set of Six Edwardian Sterling Silver Waistcoat
Buttons by Joseph Gloster

A handsome and highly collectible set of six sterling silver waistcoat buttons, crafted in Birmingham in 1903 and probably produced by the renowned silversmith Joseph Gloster. The buttons are preserved in their original fitted leatherette presentation case, retailed by Granger & Taylor of Nottingham, adding both charm and historical authenticity.

Each button displays an attractive scrolling leaf design, a motif that reflects the refined taste and decorative elegance of the Edwardian period. The flowing foliate ornament creates a sophisticated appearance, making these buttons an ideal accessory for formal waistcoats and an excellent addition to a collection of antique men's dress accessories.

Edwardian Waistcoat Buttons and Men's Fashion

During the late Victorian and Edwardian eras, decorative silver buttons were an important component of a gentleman's wardrobe. Unlike permanently attached buttons, luxury waistcoat buttons were often made as removable sets, allowing the wearer to personalize different waistcoats according to the occasion.

Sterling silver examples such as these were especially popular among well-dressed gentlemen and were frequently presented as gifts. Today, original cased sets are increasingly difficult to find, particularly when they remain complete and retain their original retailer's box.

The association with Granger & Taylor, Nottingham, further enhances the historical appeal of the set, providing a tangible connection to the retail trade of early twentieth-century Britain.
