White Linen Four‑Tier Bustle Pad, c.1898
This white linen four‑tier bustle pad, dating to the late 19th century, ca. 1898, is a rare surviving example of lightweight Victorian dress supports. Made from pleated tiers of linen and fitted with a cotton waist tie, it measures 20 cm in length and was worn beneath skirts to add subtle fullness and ensure correct draping.
Condition & Preservation
Very few of these delicate linen pads have survived, as their soft materials were prone to wear. This example is exceptionally well preserved, retaining its original structure and crisp pleating. It shows only light, discreet staining, typical for antique linen of this age.
Collecting Significance
As a rare and intact Victorian undergarment, it is highly desirable for collectors of historic costume, dress supports, and museum‑quality fashion accessories.
