Rare shoes made of light green kidskin, 1790s. Origin: English collection. Inside paper label printed 'To Her Majesty and the Princesses, Sutton Ladies' Shoe Maker, Henrietta Street, Covent Garden'. The queen referred to here is Sophie Charlotte, Duchess of Mecklenburg (1744-1818). She was the wife of George III. William Frederick (1738-1820), King of Great Britain and Ireland (until 1801), then King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland until his death. Together they had fifteen children - nine sons and six daughters.
These rococo shoes are lined inside with white kidskin, low heel. For the age: very well preserved. Kid leather lining loose at the top of the shoe and wool lining to the top of the foot part of shoe is worn and some losses. Some stitches loose to the latchets on both shoes, stitched repairs up the heel seam, small stitched repairs and wear, fraying to the edges, one shoe bears a sticker and the other has a small hole to the bottom of the shoe visible from inside. Replaced binding cords. Decoration is not included.
