A pair of yellow and black striped leather Rococo shoes, 1790s. With pointed toes, low yellow Italian heels, trimmed with yellow rosettes and ribbons. Provenance: Sizergh Castle, Cumbria. Good condition. The painted black stripes on both shoes are worn generally. Shoe A – bright stripes to side vamp and very faded and worn otherwise, ribbons are good, slight scuff to leather on heel. Shoe B – wear to stripes particularly on front side vamp, one long vamp section the stripes are good, rubbing to the other side, and rubbing to quarters, ribbons are good. Very rare to find. The decoration is not included.
