Rare handmade sample shoes from England, 1870s.Without manufacturer's label. Probably from the small shoe factory of Jesse Thompson, from the English town of Bingley. Pattern shoes were made for traveling merchants so they could present the latest shoe fashions to their clientele, often in the countryside. These sample shoes are made of leather; they are closed with three buttons each. Some scuff marks on the leather sole.
