Rare mules, ca. 1796. Origin: France. Thus, the shoes come from the period of the Directoire. The fashion of this period was very much influenced by Roman antiquity. Clear shapes, flowing fabrics, short heels that were based on the Roman sandals. This fascination with the classical past was encouraged by the recent discoveries of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
These mules have an insole made of white leather. Heels that are also covered with white leather. Brown sole. Green and yellow striped silk with a leaf motif. The stripes again have a red border. Silk bows with small buckles. Border made of gold-colored wire mesh. For the age: excellently preserved. The decoration is not included.
