Very beautiful French black silk slippers with green and pink embroidery and silk ribbon bow detail, ca. 1865. Cream silk lining. The soles and heels are leather, punched in three locations with signature markings and size.

Julien Mayer was an icon of ladies shoemaker and prolific exporter, especially from the middle years of the worldwide, French shoe export boom period 1820s-1850s and later. See identical Mayer shoes at The V and A Museum and The Powerhouse Museum. Very good condition with signs of use and age. The decoration is not included. A most decorative pair of original black silk satin shoes from the early Victorian period. Very rare to find.
