Women’s cotton slippers with silk bow. French, ca. 1811. This shoe is typical of the simple, yet elegant styles which were prevalent during the early nineteen century. They was worn by Aimée-Philippine-Marie Grand d’Hauteville (1791-1855), from Switzerland. The inner lining is inscribed with her name. Lady d’Hauteville had here wedding day in 1811. Paper Label: „Schacherer * dit L’Allemand * Cordonnier Breveté de S.M. l’Imp. et Reine * Rue St. Denis No 226, vis-á-vis celle du petit Lion * A Paris”. His Majesty Minor (French: Sa Majesté) is Joséphine de Beauharnais, the wife from Imperator Napoleon.
250 years the Château d’Hauteville near Vevey was in the propriety of the same family. 200 years this slippers drowse in this Château. Now they search a new home. Excellent condition – in consideration of age and sensibility of fabric. A part of the silk ribbons are missing. Intact silk bow. Shoes from this time, in this condition and with precise provenience are extremely rare to find. The price reflect this facts. The decoration is not included.
