Antique-Gown

Wow. A painting by Joseph-Désiré Court from 1837 shows a similar hat. The painting is entitled: La loge ou la Vénitienne au bal masqué ("The Lodge" or "The Venetian at the Masquerade Ball"). The painting is in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Rouen, France.

We date the hat to the 1830s, the time of French romanticism. It is made of light felt and decorated with coral-colored silk ribbons. Similar ribbons can be seen on the painting. Curved hat brim. Tapered. Fort he age: well preserved, but with clear signs of age and wear. Nevertheless: a rare piece of a long gone time. The decoration is not included.
