A 1860s Folding Parasol, the cover of light cream tapelace, perhaps Milanese, the lining a lightweight cream silk replacement. The lower shaft is of carved bone, with a central floral design with meandering stems, and a softly rounded cap formed in segments. The embossed metal slider is marked for Cazal, Paris, 27 Boulevard des Italiens. This company exhibited and won prizes at The Great Exhibition of 1855 and made parasols for the Empress Eugenie (1826 to 1920). Overall length approx. 23.5 inches or 60cm. Lace cover centre top to scalloped edge approx. 12 inches or 20.5cm. Replacement lining allows the parasol to fully open and hold.
