A very rare Parasol with Beaded Cover, circa 1845, the shaft of tan wood, the ribs of metal, the finial and cap ivory. Lined and finished with tiered and ruched cream silk, the edges scalloped, the cover, with a very English design of oak leaves, is itself lined in cream silk. The tiny beading is worked with a quite opaque, shiny background, and a regular, quite geometric design as border decoration, inside of which meander oak leaves in various shades of green and black. Length from tip to end of shaft 25.25 inches or 64cm. Cover depth 11 inches or 28cm to include the silk. Diameter 50 cm (when is open). Not a folding carriage parasol. Beadwork in very good condition and with good, good colour. The very end of the shaft is missing. The secondary lining of cream silk is shattered.
