Sampler, dated 1837

antique sampler 1837 1 antique sampler 1837

Mustersticktuch einer englischen jungen Dame, Maria Keyte, datiert 1872. Neben einem herrschaftlichen Haus stehen zwei Bäume. Darüber ein Sinnspruch aus den „Goldenen Versen des Pythagoras“. Diese Goldenen Verse waren Lebensregeln zum Meditieren. „Each night ere slumber seals thine eyes; Home to thy soul let this reflection rise; How has this day my duty been express’d; What have I done, omitted, or transgress’d” ((Golden Verses of Pythagors). Über dem Sinnspruch sind zwei Kronen, vasenähnliche Gefäße und Falken gestickt. Der Rahmen ist alt, aber nicht so alt wie das Stickbild. Er muss später angebracht worden sein, vielleicht dann, als das Mustersticktuch gerahmt wurde. Sehr guter Erhaltungszustand. Die Stickerei ist etwas verblasst. Die Dekoration ist nicht inbegriffen.

Frame: ~ 12" x 13"
