According to tradition, the bride should wear something old, new, borrowed, blue and a lucky penny in her shoe to the wedding. This well-known wedding custom goes back to an old English rhyme. It says, "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, A Sixpence in your Shoe."
These garters are blue. And they were probably new when they were worn, too. Nicely decorated with a rosette of small flowers and silk bows. In good condition. The elasticity has been lost over 110 years.
