Solid 800 silver shoe, ca 1900. Silver hallmark from a workshop in Hanau (Schleissner company), Germany. The shoe is made in the style of an 18th century shoe. Outside monogram and crown; various floral motifs. Inside residual traces of gilding. Shoes of this style were popular in noble circles, especially in connection with drinking games. The shoe is thus a “drinking vessel”. Silver and gold have an antiseptic effect (cf. the use of communion cups), so it is possible that people drank from them in turn. Excellently preserved. Very rare to find.
