This antique garment was worn by the Earl of Suffolk, J. E. Wood. In 1906, the Earl attended a costumed ball. Everyone had to appear in costume. He bought the costume from Skewes Bros. 21 Clare Street, Bristol. The jacket and trousers are made of black velvet. Both are decorated with hanging metal threads. Sequins and colorful (glass) stones are worked into them. Burgundy red collar embroidered with metallic threads. Lapel made of cream-colored silk, decorated with embroidery and coloured stones. The trousers are not lined, the jacket has a gold-colored silk lining. In moderately good condition - especially the embroidery on the burgundy collar. The inside of the collar, made of blue silk, is worn. Nevertheless, a rare garment that has survived the test of time.
