Gentleman’s satin embroidered wedding coat, 1740s. Cream silk having tone-on-tone satin-stitch exotic floral, stand collar, shaped pocket flaps, thirteen embroidered buttons, silk facings, wool lining, embroidered back skirts folded and stitched down. Doris Langley Moore tag dated 1981, one of Helen's last purchases from Doris Langley Moore. Very good condition. One buttonhole lightly stained, few minor spots, soil, light stains and tiny holes to lining, 1 1/2-inch split mended on back of collar, seam separation to one cuff, cuffs lacking buttons. The decoration is not included.
Provenance: Helen Larson Collection. Helen Larson was a collector based in Whittier, California. She owned a successful film costume rental business and amassed a world-renowned private collection of historic fashion. She was a brilliant connoisseur and historian.
