This superb chatelaine spectacles case is German and dates to circa 1850. In Victorian times the lady of the house would wear a chatelaine belt, attaching to it all sorts of useful items – scissors, notebook, pin cushion and even her reading glasses in their case. Very ornate design at the front and back of the case. It is lined with leather. A length of chain is attached to both sides and they hold the clip which has similarly lavish ornamentation on the front. The plain clip behind it is hinged but not springy but it attaches easily to a waistband or belt. Good to very good condition. There is some wear and some oxidations. The spectacles in the case dates to circa 1870. The decoration is not included. Very rare to find.
