A Pair of Feathered Fixed Fans or Face Screens, Huron, North American Indian, 1870's to 1880's, the handle of each made from birch bark and embroidered with birds and figures in strong colours in quill. Both screens are covered in marabou or similar fluffy feathers, white with a strong cerise border. The centre of each recto is adorned with a small stuffed bird (possibly a Bunting and a Waxwing). Contained in the remnants of the original shaped fan box, missing the sides. Good clean feathers, the birds slightly flattened. Good quill embroidery with no loss. Only the top and bottom of the shaped card box available. Annotated with details including the date 1872.
