Original Edwardian mourning hat with jet decoration, ca. 1905. Made of special crinkly "crape anglaise" (mourning crape - spelled with an "a" to indicate mourning crape) material specifically used by widows. Large paper label inside the crown which says in gold lettering "Co-operative Society Limited, Drapery Dept. Colchester". Large bow decoration on one side of the hat. For the most part this hat is in very good condition. It does have a fine veil which comes with the hat. We notice a few small holes in the veil which is where it was pinned to the hat or pulled up and pinned. The hat comes with a photocopy of an original photograph showing a lady wearing the mourning hat. Unfortunately the original photograph fell to pieces. The decoration is not included.
Diameter: ~ 32 cm
