Antique ivory satin wedding gown trimmed in swan’s down, ca. 1867. Long sleeve bodice having padded bust, pearl buttons inset with bronze metal star, down trim at neckline, shoulder and cuff, trained skirt having a shorter gauze overskirt undulating at the hem with a band of down, pleated ribbon and delicate lace with leaf forms, separate belt with large lace-trimmed back bow. Good to very good condition. Down losses, gauze has age toning and scattered holes and spots. The decoration is not included.
Provenance: Doris Langley Moore and Helen Larson Collection. Purchased from Doris Langley Moore in 1960. Helen Larson was a collector based in Whittier, California. She owned a successful film costume rental business and amassed a world-renowned private collection of historic fashion. She was a brilliant connoisseur and historian.
