In the history of fashion, coats of this type were called dolmans. Dolman (in older spellings rarely also Dollmann or Dollman) is the name for a men's jacket of the Hungarian national costume, for a Turkish overcoat and a sleeve form. This jacket has developed into a women's jacket for bustle dresses. The jackets/coats are long at the front and short at the back. They usually ended above the cul.
This dolman is made of brown velvet. When photographed, the fabric shimmers a little so that it looks shiny and restless. In reality, it is a beautiful fabric. The large, drop-shaped tassels that adorn the hem of the coat are striking. Decorative elements in the chest area, which also serve to close the jacket. Pagoda sleeves with wide cuffs. Lined on the inside with quilted silk. Small inside pocket. The dolman is in good to very good condition. Abrasion in the area of the inner silk (especially at the collar), abrasion also at the “buttons” in the chest area. All in all: a very beautiful and distinctive antique garment that can still be worn today. The decoration is not included.
