Two-piece antique travelling dress, ca. 1869, made of olive green (heavy) silk. The antique dress consists of a skirt and a jacket. Brown decorative elements, usually the edges (collar, sleeves, hem, etc.), interrupt the uniform appearance. However, it is the large buttons that contribute to the extremely elegant look. Many are decorative buttons, others are used to close the jacket. Side pockets decorated with brown silk and buttons. The jacket is lined with light-coloured cotton in the upper part, the skirt with brown, glazed cotton. In good condition. A few stains - on both the skirt and the jacket; signs of wear on some buttons; a few of the buttons are not sewn on but are present; repairs under the left arm. All in all, however: an exceptional piece of past fashion history. From the property of the Valentine Museum for the benefit of collection care, conservation and future acquisitions.
