Three-piece travel ensemble, ca. 1878. The ensemble consists of travel coat, the matching collar and a travel bag. All three made of linen fabric. The coat was worn over a dress to protect it from dust and soot. Travel in America in 1878 was by carriage and by train. The lady always carried the most important things in such a bag. The larger luggage checked or strapped to the roof of the carriage. Coat and collar are well preserved. Especially the coat has some stains that indicate its "eventful" history. The bag is beautifully embroidered with woolen threads - in different motifs. Some of this embroidery has not survived use. It is nevertheless in good condition. All together, this is a very rare convolute that we have not had before in many years of collecting and searching. The decoration is not included.
