Yes, if the dress had been worn in Germany or Austria, it would be a Biedermeier dress. But it comes from England, where the period of the 1840s falls under the Romantic/Romantic period.

The dress is inscribed with the owner's name on the inside. It must have been written in ink before the center bar was sewn in. The antique evening dress is made from a soft, flowing golden-yellow silk damask. Motif: tendrils of flowers and leaves. Pointed neckline, pleated upper arm sections and cuffs. The skirt is pleated at the waist. It falls in the typical bell shape. Fastened at the back with hooks and eyelets. What makes this dress special - apart from the exceptionally elegant fabric and the wearer's name - are the two additional accessories. One is the belt and the other is a breast cape that covers the deep neckline of the evening dress - if required and probably out of the house. The dress is in excellent condition. The belt and cape are lined with thin silk on the back. This is splitting a little. The decoration is not included.
