A beige silk taffeta dress with matching pelerine from the Romantic Period, ca. 1844. Adorned with braid and silk wrapped buttons, bell-shaped sleeves with gathered taffeta inner cuffs, rear fastened by hooks and eyes; the fichu adorned with rosettes and braid; and a matching reticule. Excellent condition. Centre front bodice seam has been opened and boning removed, bodice side seams have been let out, but this looks like a 19th century alteration. The centre seam can easily be re-sewn but it is concealed by the pelerine in any case. Faint perspiration stains and small split at left underarm. Fabric is remarkably fresh and lustrous. Fichu good condition, no problems. Overall impression is good. The decoration is not included.
