Bodice from the late rococo period, ca. 1790. Made of brown silk - with the typical pattern of the fabrics of that time, namely floral decoration in different colours. Bordered with a light cotton fabric; small red and black leaves are printed on it. Lined on the inside with a dark cotton fabric with dots. The "cones" at the lower end of the top are made of leather. These were placed on the panier and thus gave the top additional support. The upper part was originally laced. The lacing holes are still there. Later hooks and eyelets were added. Two hooks, which were attached to the outside of the bodice, were used to hook the skirt. The top is very short, so we assume that it was probably made for a child or a young lady. This makes it even rarer. It is - considering its age - well to very well preserved. Two small tears in the front area. Wear on the inner lining. The decoration is not included.
The top comes from a German collection. The origin Germany is therefore correct - seen from today's point of view. In 1790 there was no Germany yet. The country was divided into principalities, grand principalities, duchies, kingdoms.
