A striped and floral brocaded pink silk robe à la Française, 1770s, with trained sack-back, wide pannier skirt shapings, graduated front robings with ruched zig-zag patterns which widen towards the hem edged in silk fly braid, double engageants; together with a quilted ivory satin petticoat worked with thistles and roses . Very good condition. There are very faint perspiration stains and a few small pinhead holes in this area. 3 cm split just above the centre-back hem - minor. Two small holes in bodice left front panel. Patch repair in near-matching silk to bodice front right closure edge. The sack- back pleats match well. The fabric is generally fresh and clean in appearance, good colours; The ivory quilted silk petticoat is frayed in places, mainly around the hem, replaced linen waistband. Very rare to find. The decoration is not included.
