Extraordinary wedding ensemble consisting of a wedding dress, an umbrella, a fan and wedding shoes. Provenance: England, ca. 1878. The dress is a dream in crea, satin silk. A one-piece that hooks in the front. Eight bows decorate the front area. The original wax flowers are still present in all the bows. Lace is attached to the left and right of the bows. Long sleeves that end in wide cuffs made of lace. On the left side a small pocket for the parasol. Long train. Bows on the back and on the train. Hemline area placed in small pleats. Very good to excellent condition. A few - very few and very subtle - stains. The dark spot - front left - is not a stain, but only the shadow of a fold.
The umbrella is embroidered. Wooden handle, foldable. Silk fringes. Ring at the top with the original tassel. The silk is torn in a few places - as is so often the case with these umbrellas. The small fan has sticks made of wood; covering made of a dark gold colored fabric. Umbrella and fan were stored in the side dress pocket. Shoes are made of cream satin. Dainty finish. Decorative bows. Inner sole made of white leather. Well preserved. Abrasion in the silk.
