Elegant ensemble, ca. 1878. The ensemble consists of a reception dress or visiting dress and a matching jacket. The jacket and dress are made of blue brocade silk.
The jacket closes in the front with buttons covered by a silk panel. Two decoration in the buttocks processed as pockets. Inside lined with silk. Excellent condition.
The dress is made in princess style. Dresses that were tailored in this fashionable style were meant to extremely accentuate the figure. They were all one-pieces and were worn only for a short time. They are very rare to find. The name comes from the English Queen Alexandra, Princess of Wales. She made these dresses presentable. They were only tailored and worn for a few years, so dating them at this point is easy.
This dress closes in the front with buttons. Asymmetrical fabrication that was typical of these dresses. Many parts are placed in small and larger folds. Decorated with ribbons of colored glass pins and with ribbons with color-coordinated tassels. Long train. Excellent condition. One button is missing; a few seams are open. The decoration is not included.
