Two afternoon dresses from the later Romantic/Biedermeier Period, 1840s. The two dresses are from America and were probably worn by mother and daughter. Both antique dresses are made of brown moiré silk, but show different cuts.
The mother's dress has a pronounced waist area, which is rather rare for dresses from this period. The top of the one-piece dress is closed at the front with small buttons. Long back part, which was probably extended a long time ago. Corded hem. Black velvet ribbon and passementerie on the cuffs. Very well preserved. A small spot on the left chest side.
The daughter's dress has a cord application and glass buttons on the cuffs. Corded hem, matching the dress of the mother. Very well preserved. A small spot on the back and a tiny hole in the chest area.
These two antique dresses are absolute lucky finds. Very, very rare. The brooches are not included in both dresses, the replaced "belt" is included.
