Very beautiful wedding dress, made in the princess style, ca. 1878. Dresses made in this fashionable style were designed to emphasize the figure. They are very rare to find. The name comes from the English Queen Alexandra, Princess of Wales. She made these dresses socially acceptable. They were only made and worn for a few years in the history of fashion, making it easy to date them at this point.
This wedding dress leaves nothing to be desired in terms of extravagance. English label: Miss Davies, Dress and Mantle Maker, Rose Cottage, Red Lake. This antique dress is a two-piece, which is rather rare for dresses of this style. The top is made of cream-colored silk. The sleeves are made of cream-colored wool. Decorated with handmade Maltese lace from Bedfordshire. The top is fastened with covered buttons. There are 19 - and they are all there. The small pleats are a striking motif that can be found throughout the dress. If the top is already playful, the skirt is even more playful. Silk and wool are successfully combined here too. There are pleats, decorative buttons, flounces, lace, a dust band, a long train with pleats and... and... both parts are lined with cotton on the inside. In excellent condition. The decoration is not included.
