When this dress was worn, the American National Anthem was played. In America, they celebrated Independence Day. But not just any Independence Day, it was the 90th holiday since the founding of the United States. On July 4, 1776, delegates from the 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence of the United States and thus the founding of the United States of America. 90 years later, this dress was worn at a ball in honor of the Declaration of Independence.
The shape of the dress infers a crinoline dress, circa 1866. It came from his famous French collection. The collector was an international collector. It is quite possible that this dress came from the USA. But it could just as easily have been worn by the wife of the American Ambassador in Paris. The American flag, Stars and Stripes, is implemented in the dress. The blue top is covered with stars made of metallic threads, the skirt is made of white and red striped silk. A small bow with a star was loose. We draped it over the hidden pocket. An exceptional dress, in good condition. The top is unlined. There are still some small sequins on the stars (but some are missing). The skirt has a few stains in the front area. One water stain. There is a tear in the silk to the left of the small pocket. Another small horizontal tear. We have documented all the defects we noticed in photos. The decoration is not included.
