Does the name Elsie Hughes mean anything to you? She is the house lady/housekeeper and thus boss of the maids, and generally in charge of all the female staff at Downton Abbey. She more or less takes care of all the maids and is very stoic, but never wrong. This dress also comes from a distinguished English household, but is about 50 years older. The fabric is a gray woolen. The antique dress, made of a gray wool fabric, is a one piece. The top closes in the front with glass buttons. Velvet ribbon and decorative buttons on the cuffs (one button is missing), of the very strict looking dress. The dress is in good condition. It has - as is often the case with wool dresses - some holes, but they are not or hardly noticeable. The belt belongs to the dress (replaced velvet ribbon). Brooch and chatelaine are not included. Dresses of this type are extremely rare. They have often been worn out and/or discarded. This one has survived.
