Beautiful evening dress made of cream-colored silk, ca. 1864, from the collection of Lyn Hopwood. When this dress was worn in England, the War of Independence was raging in America. The basic shade of the silk is cream. Blue and pink pansies are printed on it. The skirt is round and ends in a small train. A lace border is attached to the lower hemline. A vertical strip of small pleated bows is sewn onto the front of the skirt. The dress has two tops. Both are worn with a matching belt. This has a small purple bow at the front. The skirt and bow are in very good condition. Few, tiny stains.
The evening bodice has a semi-circular neckline that is decorated with dark (pleated) silk in the color purple. The same silk can be found on the short sleeves. These are also decorated with lace. Very beautiful, decorative buttons to close. In very good condition. Subtle signs of wear.
The day bodice has half-length sleeves, closes at the front and is decorated with lace. Lace is attached to the shoulders and around the V-neckline. In very good condition. Minor discoloration and stains. Very moderate signs of wear. The decoration is not included.
