Beautiful evening dress made of eggshell-colored silk, ca. 1864, from the collection of Lyn Hopwood. When this dress was worn in England, the War of Independence was raging in America. The skirt is round and ends in a small train. The front of the skirt is decorated with four ribbon bows connected by a red velvet ribbon. Each bow has a small lace border and is decorated with a red velvet ribbon with lace. A red velvet bow is attached to the lower left silk of the skirt. The back of the skirt is decorated with a large silk bow at the waist. The skirt is in good to very good condition. A few stains. Subtle signs of wear. The dress has two tops. Both are worn with a matching belt. This has a small red velvet bow at the front. The belt is in very good condition.
The day top has long sleeves. The cuffs are pleated and decorated with lace. Front closure with buttons. Red velvet bow in the chest area. All-round decorative band made of red velvet and lace. In very good condition.
The evening top has short sleeves. One velvet bow on each shoulder and three bows in the chest area.Decorative red velvet ribbon with lace.Aparte hanging appliqués made of transparent glass.The top is in very good condition.Very few of the glass appliqués are missing.The decoration is not included.
