Extraordinary dinner dress, ca. 1879. Extraordinary is the color. A pale pink that is only slightly faded in a very few places. Exceptional are many pleats that have been made on the dress. We have rarely had a dress with so many pleats in hand. Finally, unusual is the style of the dress, the so-called princess style. Dresses that have been tailored in this fashionable style should extremely emphasize the figure. They were one-pieces or two-pieces (like this dress) and were worn only for a short time. They are very rare to find. The name comes from the English Queen Alexandra, Princess of Wales. She made these dresses presentable. They were only tailored and worn for a few years, so dating them at this point is easy.
The varying shades of pink silk are punctuated by lace. Front closure of the bodice by buttons. Typical cul of the skirt. The antique dress is the dinner dress of a young woman or girl. She must have had a petite figure. Origin: Europe. Very well preserved. Minor (almost obligatory) stains. The decoration is not included.
