Wow! What a dress! A beautiful ball gown from the early days of the crinolines, ca. 1859. Origin: France. But it would also fit wonderful in the southern states of America, in the time before the American Civil War. The dress is a two-piece - a top with peplum and a wide skirt with a touch of a train. Light blue silk. Tulle appliqués in the area of the skirt in the form of "aprons" decorated with flowers (lilac) made of fabric. Decorative elements placed in folds. The top is closed at the front with buttons. Half-length sleeves. Lace applications, lilac flowers on the shoulders, black velvet ribbon to adjust the sleeves. The silk of the dress is in very good condition, the lace in good condition, the tulle unfortunately not in good condition. The tulle has a few larger tears and smaller holes. Especially under the top the tulle has come off the waist. Nevertheless: an extraordinary dress. Dresses of this kind have unfortunately survived only very rarely. The decoration is not included.
