Hooded cape from the rococo period, ca. 1785. Made of a red chintz fabric. Lined with wool inside. Circumferential wide border, which is laid in small folds. The cloak is long at the front, short at the back and bulging at the sides. It was made to be worn over a Robe á la Polonaise. These had a puffed up back which was not allowed to be crushed. The hood served to cover the rococo bonnet (caleche). However, we draped the cape differently. In our version the hood is only a fashion accessory. Hook and eye define this variation. However, if the cape is worn open, the hood can also cover the head. Excellent condition. An absolute rarity. The decoration is not included.
