This morning dress is an exquisite example of the fine craftsmanship of the Cheuvreux-Aubertot fashion house, which was founded in 1786 by Casimir Cheuvreux (1766-1846). It was located in Paris, on the corner of the Boulevard and Rue Poissonnière. The colour black was a fashionable colour and was not directly related to a bereavement in the wearer's family.
The dress, made in a close-fitting princess style, is characterised by its elegant button placket with knitted buttons and is richly decorated with silk ribbons and braided and velvet appliqués. These elaborate embellishments can be found on the front and back as well as on the sleeves of the dress.
Another remarkable detail is the pleated back, which flows into a magnificent train and gives the dress a majestic appearance. A dress worthy of an empress.
The condition of the dress is remarkably good, especially for an antique garment, and it is in overall very good/excellent and clean condition. This makes it a desirable collector's item for lovers of historical fashion and craftsmanship. Decoration is not included.
