Two-piece bustle dress, made in princess style, ca. 1879. Made of blue silk. Origin: France. The antique dress is a two-piece consisting of an elongated top and a skirt. The top is closed in front with buttons made of mother-of-pearl. Lined inside with brown cotton. Big bow in the bottom area. Swallow tail cut on the back. Pocket watch. Pleated cuffs. The skirt is pleated in the front. Lined with blue glazed cotton on the inside. Well preserved. One button is missing (we covered the missing with the brooch). A few stains on the top and the skirt. Nevertheless: very extraordinary silk and a distinctive appearance, worn close fitting. The decoration is not included.
Dresses tailored in this fashionable style should emphasize the figure extremely. They were all one-piece pieces and were only worn for a short time. They are very rare to find. The name comes from the English Queen Alexandra, Princess of Wales. She made these dresses presentable. They were only tailored and worn for a few years, so that a dating at this point is easy.
