A burgundy voided velvet and satin evening gown, circa 1884. Scottish label: J. Blackwood * George St. * Edinburgh. The body with sharply pointed front waist, old mother-of-pearl colored buttons, low square neckline, the skirt with pleats of satin and chemical lace, pronounced gathers and padding to rear bustle area. Very good condition with a few flaws: Rubbing to velvet at bodice front closure, wear/ scuffing to internal black silk lining, exterior fabric is generally good. Lacking one baleen bone, others are partially exposed. Bodice velvet is faded on a few places, velvet on skirt is faded along vertical folds centre front. Some abrasion and one hole on the train peak (satin). The decoration is not included.
