Elegant afternoon dress in tartan pattern, ca 1855. The dress is made of silk (olive green shades). Longitudinal blue silk stripes. Woven in horizontal stripes in cream, dark pink and light green. The tartan dresses were often the most colorful garments of the season. The dress is characterized by the V-shaped bust area (gathered and pleated). Blue acorn shaped pom poms adorn the bust area. Snood placed in small pleats. Stepped pagoda sleeves. Color coordinated (three different colors) silk fringe on sleeves. Bell-shaped skirt pleated at the waist. Back closure by means of hooks and buttonholes. Interior lined with glazed cotton. Very well preserved. Discreet wear marks in the underarm area. Discreet abrasion at the collar. One tiny hole. The decoration is not included.
