Very rare dress sack from the Victorian period. If the lady of the house traveled, she took elegant evening dresses with her. In this period, the skirts of the dresses were often stiff and heavy. To transport especially the skirts safely, such bags were made and used. This one dates back to about 1895, France. Black satin silk, with a monogram in gold threads. Wide bottom. Interior lined with pink silk. Cord to close. Very good to excellent condition.
