This antique posy holder or bouquet holder dates from the Biedermeier period, ca. 1840. Origin: Germany. Mother of pearl handle, an openwork gilded crown with flowers & leaves. Ruby red painted dots, designed to resemble stones, serve as stylized flowers - truly a unique museum piece. Finger ring and pin to attach the flowers are also present. In very good to excellent condition.
Bouquet holders were once used at dances to present the flowers presented by the attendant. Usually these bouquet holders had a ring at the bottom end that was slipped over the little finger. This way, one did not run the risk of losing the good piece while dancing. Antique bouquet holders are not so often found today.
