Original stays from the early Rococo period, ca. 1720. Origin from France. These stays are made of brocade, wide and low across the bust. “Hardcover” chest. Original wood-stick at the center of the stays. Maybe the whole chest area is reinforced with thin wood. Hand-stitched lateral panels that smooth and press the torso into the fashionable cone shape. The stays fasten at the back. Eyelet holes. Black ribbons (vertical stitched) for decoration. Lined with off-white linen. Stays were always worn over a shift, which protected the skin from its corser materials. Excellent condition taking in consideration the age of the stays. Some stains and signs of wear. Missing black ribbon on a few places. Antique ribbon is used to lace. The decoration is not included. Very, very rare to find.
