Large ermine fur muff, ca. 1900. Muffs of this type were a status symbol. Ermine, formerly reserved for emperors, kings and cardinals, was also worn in summer as an ornamental item. They were a sign of wealth. Even 120 years ago, ermine fur was very expensive. This muff still has a small marten head and the original ermine tail tips. A seam is open on one side/or the fur is torn. This area would need to be repaired. Lined with silk on the inside. Only the muff is for sale.
