Stitched black bustle pad, ca. 1890, origin: America. Bustles of this type were used in the 1890s to make the waist area of skirts appear puffier. It is a "transitional" fashion accessory from a period between the so-called lobster tails (1870s to late 1880s) and the complete lack of aids (around 1900). In very good condition.
