Probably Spitalfields Silk, ca. 1780 Spitalfields is a weaving village near London, England, which produced a certain kind of silk. It was of extremely high quality and could easily compete with French silk on the world market. This dress is made of such silk.
The dress has probably been worn again in the middle of the 20th century (a copy of a photograph is enclosed). The dress has the typical gigot sleeves of dresses from the early 1830s. Upper part with snood. Skirt that falls bell-shaped. The condition is very bad to fair. The dress has some tears, but they are stabilized. Stains. Discoloration, which is mainly visible in the area of the woven flowers. To wear the antique dress again in the 20th century, snap fasteners were attached. Nevertheless: a beautiful original from the Biedermeier period. And made with the 18th century fabric, it is a rare dress. The decoration is not included. The price reflects the condition.
