In 1922 the tomb of Tutankhamun is found by Howard Carter. This sensational find triggered an incredible "Egyptophile wave". In art, literature, in everyday objects, but also in fashion this find found its echo. This coat is a good example of this.
The extraordinary coat is made of black velvet, circa 1924. Parisian label: Jeanne Laffitte * 9 Rue Richepanse. On the coat are painted stylized lotus flowers, slightly glittering. In ancient Egypt, the lotus flower was considered a symbol of creation and rebirth and, along with the scarab, was also the most important symbol of regeneration and resurrection. The collar, cuffs, the hem and the front part of the coat have been painted with it. Inside the coat is lined with mustard-colored lamé fabric. The coat is closed with filigree brass buttons. Stand-up collar, which is reinforced with wire inside. Very good to excellent condition. One small missing part in the lining. Very discreet wear marks. The decoration is not included.
