Very nice jacket made of wild silk from the Drecoll House. The label refers to Paris, in the 1920s. The jacket is closed at the front with seven large buttons. Two side pockets. Jackets of this type were often worn with trousers in the 1920s to underline the androgynous appearance of some women at that time. Very good to excellent condition.
Johann Wilhelm Rudolf Christoph von Drecoll (* 21. November 1851 in Hamburg; † 17. November 1939 in Lobetal) was a German couturier. Drecoll learned to tailor at the Hamburg fashion house Röper & Messerschmidt. He went then to Vienna, where he first worked for Josef Hallauer and opened his own salon in the 1880s. He became famous for stage costumes, especially one he made in 1895 for the debut of actress Adele Sandrock in the role of Maria Stuart at the Burgtheater, but also for riding costumes, among others he also worked for Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Drecoll opened a salon in Paris in 1905 which existed until 1930. He maintained further fashion houses in New York and Berlin. Drecoll's style was extravagant and often ahead of general fashion (source: Wikipedia).
